Fairstone School for Boys, a thousand years old, mysterious, and luxurious, is considered the finest preparatory school in all of Vetlinue, where greatness and the leaders of tomorrow are forged within its black castle walls built around a dying magical Ida tree. The sons of Bastin’s powerful lords and privileged elite call the ancient institution of learning their home, and so does another fourteen-year-old boy, a boy nor lord or privileged, Pard Wenerly, seeros. Pard finds himself at Fairstone among his betters by the grace of luck or a curse, or at least that is what the boys think of Pard’s presence. What the boys of Fairstone nor Pard realize is that a powerful force greater than anything they can comprehend is growing inside of the young seeros, and it will soon unleash its might for all to witness. The results set off a cascade of events that spiral out of control as Pard’s enemies intend to capitalize on this revelation. Dangerous mercenaries appear at Fairstone and in the nearby resort town of Greysin, and a high stakes game ensues. Old secrets and lies long since buried within the ancient castle come to light and hit closer to home than Pard could ever imagine. Pard must unravel the mystery of himself and the growing conspiracy that surfaces as he tries to stay one step ahead of his enemies.

Great Story!!
By Cortney L. Cassidy
I loved this book, it is a great read for anyone 13 or older. The dynamic between the main characters is great, at points their dialogue is laugh out loud funny. As with the first book the every chapter ends with some event that makes you want to keep reading. Can't wait to read the third book.

A well read, but opinionated, reader
By Momma G
(Momma G's Husband) I've mulled over this review for more than a week now, as I really disliked the writing style in the first book of this series, though there were aspects of the story I felt had potential. Now that I've completed the second book, and thought on it, I've decided I simply can't overcome my dislike for the hard third person POV and the clumsy, disjointed descriptions that litter the pages of this work. While involving almost entirely new characters, the story line is in many aspects the same as the last book - introducing us to a teenager with unknown and uncontrollable powers, running from circumstances driven by a world much bigger than their understanding, stripped of their family, who pair with two minor characters along the way - one of whom is a slightly fleshed out mythical creature. I find I can't wade through another four books like this as all the main and supporting characters are introduced, only then to begin learning how their magic "works" in this universe, and experiencing the interplay and conflict between magic and technology that (I assume) provides the societal impetus to those hunting the hero(s).
Like the last book, I strongly recommend you read the preview chapter before buying, then ask yourself if you want another 300+ pages of the same. I find that I do not, and will not be reviewing any further works by this author.
