Great book!

Kirk Nelson does a great job with his first published book, leading us into the life of Argon Bosch. The adventures launch quickly but as a first person narrative, Argon doesn’t hesitate to fill us in on some of his past adventures as well as some of the misadventures that tend to torture his present day psyche. We learn to develop a liking for Argon, as a guy you would like to share a “Blackhole Ale” with, but maybe just not as many as he would. Argon has a personal level of integrity to do the right thing, but often tends to approach with the actions of a grumbling, cantankerous brat. As Argon zips around the galaxy in an attempt to solve an age old myth, he encounters no shortage of strange, scary, erotic and downright bizarre characters that makes you wonder what goes on in that mind of Mr. Nelson. Whatever is going on in there, Mr. Nelson is able to breathe life into these characters and paint them in sharp graphic detail to fill your own mind with a replication of his own. The story continues with an elaborate number of twists and turns that keeps the reader engrossed and trying to figure out how the plot will end, but in the end discovers that they “didn’t see that coming”. Bravo, Mr. Nelson, on this book and we’ll be waiting for Argon’s next adventure to come out!

This is one fast and funny book. Think galactic Raiders of the Lost Ark. Argon Bosch is an anti-hero with a lot of baggage, a quick tongue, a broad view of morality, and if he didn’t have bad luck, he’d have no luck at all. The worlds Kirk Nelson creates and that Bosch navigates are beautifully imagined and wonderfully rendered. The cast of characters are both oddball and oddly enchanting. And plot twists? This is a story a pretzel would envy. In short, I loved this book. I only hope that Kirk Nelson is hard at work on a sequel.
