Wicked Ride

I haven't read Rebecca Zanetti's precursor Dark Protectors series, and I don't think you need to. There are some very apparent cross-over characters, and while it took me a little bit of time to figure out the ins and outs of this world, I never felt lost.
What really helps new readers like myself was the fact that Alexandra (our heroine) is also new to this supernatural world and therefore new readers can learn a lot of the information as Alexandra is learning as well.
I really liked the story which consists of Enforcers for the Coven Nine going undercover in a Seattle MC in order to figure out how the drug Apollo is getting on the streets. The drug is one that can be deadly to witches, given the right dosage, and of course the manufacturer must be stopped.
Alexandra works for the human police and she's encountering Apollo on her end. The drug isn't only deadly to witches. Humans have been taking it and for a time they feel god-like powers, but if they take too much it causes a quick and, shall we say, fiery death.
Of course this is going to bring Alexandra in close contact with Kellach Dunne and because he's a witch and she's human, he has secrets which make him look suspicious.
So the storyline was pretty good, and I liked the way it seems things are going to progress with Apollo. I think it's safe to say that not everything is figured out by the end. The problems with the drug, I believe, will push the series forward (at least into the next book).
My problem with this book, was Alexandra and Kell. There was just too much back and forth between them. One minute they trust each other the next minute Alexandra is arresting Kell for lying to her. If it was only something that happened once, maybe twice, I could forgive, but it seemed to go on throughout the ENTIRE book. Once things had progressed with Kell and Lex to a certain point, Kell irritated me by not sitting Lex down and coming clean with everything. Lex is supposed to be a good cop, good at her job, but all we see is her making rash, impulsive, decisions, and honestly it makes her look more incompetent than anything else. Unfortunately I felt, even once I got to the end where everything should have been resolved between Kell and Lex, that nothing was truly ever resolved. This wouldn't be an issue if this series was only going to focus on Kell and Lex throughout it's entirety, but the way things are set up, I'm pretty sure it's going to follow the standard of having a different couple with each book. So any real progress these two make on their developing relationship will be done in the background or off page. Just didn't feel settled for me.
Despite not being entirely on board with this couple, I like overall what has been started here. There's also been some set-up of things to come for other couples which seem promising.
I still plan on reading the next book to come out no question.

Rebecca has started a new series where we can read about what is going on with our favorite characters from the Realm and introduce us to new hot heroes. In Wicked Ride we meet Kellach Dunne. He is a bad ass Witch Enforcer whose job is to protect the Coven Nine Witches. We met him the Dark Protectors and guess what? He is as dreamy as all the other Protectors. And like the Dark Protectors there will be on going story through all the future books. YAY..
Alexandra Monzelle is a police officer who follows the letter of the law. Kellach’s law could not be more different. But when these two meet and finally work together the sparks they ignite are just as powerful as a Forth of July fireworks display.
Lex is no nonsense and fights her own battles. Kellach is as old school and comes from a time where women need protecting, are fragile and delicate. Lex being strong as she is, denies that she needs any of these things but secretly would love for a man to be that for her. When compromise is met, we see the potential that this is a couple who will protect their loved ones with their lives.
There a few cameos from a few of our favorites from the Dark Protectors and that just bought back the feeling of home in a way. Thank you Rebecca for continuing on with a world that brings us adventure, romance and an Alpha to dream about.

Wicked Ride Book #1 Realm Enforcers Rebecca Zanetti
Wasn’t sure what to expect but knowing Rebecca Zanetti I knew it would be good. Realm Enforcers is a spinoff of our beloved Dark Protectors series, if you want to think of it as that.
Instead of Vamps we have witches and a grizzly ole lovable Bear shifter named Bear, who happened to be Alpha of the Grizzlies. I really liked this character. Don’t ask me why but there was just something about him that grabbed me and hung on. This read is full of action and keeps you on the edge of your seat.
The story seems to center around the Coven of Nine and someone with a beef for the witches. Wicked Ride centers around three brother enforcers Daire Dunne, Adam Dunne and Kellach Dunne along with their cousin Simone sent to Seattle to find out who is making and distributing a new drug called Apollo. Testing it on the humans it literally gives them the feeling of euphoria and like they are Gods before it literally melts them from the inside out causing death. The drug is very dangerous to Witches and the Dunne’s need to find the manufacturer and who is distributing this powerful weapon before it ends up in Dublin. Undercover the Dunne brothers joined the most notorious MC Club which happened to be on the cop’s radar for guns and drugs.
When our headstrong Detective Alexandra Monzelle happened to be doing her own undercover work Kell spotted her and a lowlife following her. He knew the guy was either drunk or on drugs. When he goes to her rescue and suspects the guy was given Apollo an altercation pursues and in order to take the guy down Kell uses his own fire against the would be attackers fire. All along Alex is watching what’s going down and thinks they have a new weapon that shoots fire. Kell gets the shock of his life when all is said and done and he finds a gun pointed at him and telling him to get down he’s under arrest.
The attraction between Kell and Alex is pretty much spot on from the beginning although somewhat volatile. As bodies were showing up and Detective Monzelle and Kellach seemed to keep showing up on the same crime scenes Alex wanted answers and she wanted them now. She didn’t trust anyone which at times was a little annoying in the read. We all knew she was a cop and could handle herself but sometimes she just went overboard. Seems she was always arresting poor Kell.
Rebecca put quite a few twists and turns in the read and poor Kell gets the shock of his life and Simone, Adam and Daire have a good laugh. The most disturbing part was what happens to Alexandra when her father is released from prison. Wow he truly is a POS. I just wished Kell would have taken him out. By him going back to prison he can still do his dealing. I’m really curious who Wicked Edge will be about. Will it be Simone and Nick Veis or one of the other brothers?
