Exciting, drama-filled sequel with space and ground battles.

I thoroughly enjoyed book 2 in the Normydia Crisis - it had a lot more action than the first book and the writing was more polished (the author has really begun to hone his craft). The second book picks up on events straight after the conclusion of the first book with the ISN (Inter-Stellar Navy) and Normydian fleets heading to New Babylon to put down the rebellion there. From the moment they put boots on the ground at New Babylon, things start to get out of control with the Normydian fleets suddenly turning on the ISN. G. Satterford has done a great job with balancing the pacing of the action and the dramatic engagements of the characters with each other, moving the plot of the story significantly from the slower pace of the first book which lay the ground work for the major players within the novel. Satterford has created an interesting back drop for his characters - a future where humanity has positioned itself in to destinctive castes with the Lowborn or Pure-blood humans without genetic manipulation at the bottom of the heap. He has created a society which has the appearance of unity but in reality is horribly fractured - the cracks increasingly evident as the Normydian Crisis grows ever deeper. I have to say I just love G. Satterfford's landscape, characters and the plot of the Normydia Crisis which has all the elements of political intrigue, action and drama-filled scenes between the characters, that I love a lot. My favourite characters - Talia, the Lowborn pilot raised to a Knight's squire, she's a cocky gal with a lot of guts; Bohemond, Talia's Knight Commander, is rather a dour guy, but dependable; Jorric the alien Kr'lee who at more than 5 hundred years old displays both wit and wisdom; Anselm the dalit (a scornful appellation given to children of Lowborn and Highborn humans) Count of Normydia and son of Duke William of Normydia, is an idealist, a bit of student of Earth history and generally looked upon with a certain amount of disfavour by those around him and the ever so scary, very mysterious Caractacus and a host of interesting aliens. Overall, with plenty of action, some unexpected twists to the story, well developed characters, the Normydia Crisis is shaping up for an exciting conclusion - well, I am kinda hoping Satterford writes some more books in the Normydia universe. Big shout out to G. Satterford for his exciting Normydia Crisis books - I really recommend this series, it's very enjoyable.
