About the Author
Descendant of Pittsburgh industrialists, Marion Hunt spent a decade in film and television in Los Angeles where she co-produced The Mighty Quinn for MGM. Themes from Mars Girl, Earth Boy derive from two of her favorite projects, Voice of the Planet and The Greening of Mars. For 30 years she has worked with non-profits and foundations focusing on environmental issues. A Zen Buddhist practitioner, Marion has one daughter, India, and lives in NYC with her significant other, Bobby. Born in Montreal, Canada, James Ciment is a widely published historian and writer who currently teaches at Cal Poly Pomona. He is the author and editor of several books for children and teenagers, including The Young People’s History of the United States. His latest book is Another America: The Story of Liberia and the Former Slaves Who Ruled It, published in 2013. Mars Girl, Earth Boy is his first work of children’s fiction. James lives in LA, with his wife Irene, daughter Bibi, and son Bruno.

My 12-year old son loved this book

My 12-year old son loved this book. It’s a science and adventure novel that, at times, found him laughing out loud as he read. The authors succeeded in capturing just the right tone to speak to his tween-age boy brain. The science sounded cool, not nerdy, and the ecology just matter of fact, not preachy. And, most importantly, the plot just clipped along; it was a true page-turner. He didn’t want to put it down. I’d recommend this book to anyone with a boy or girl who digs science and adventure novels, appreciates humor, and is just at that age of being interested in the opposite gender. As a parent, I appreciated that this book is chock full of positive themes and role models. But my son just liked it because it was funny and a good read.

This was a VERY good book! I enjoyed it very much.
My favorite character is Ernie because he is so adventurous, just like me. He likes to do and try new things, which is exactly what I like to do. We could be good friends in real life.
My favorite part is when Earth Boy and Mars Girl meet for the first time because I thought it was quite funny with the sign and all.

There's No Place Like Home!

I bought this book for me pre-teen nieces and nephew, but ended up enjoying it myself first. Marion Hunt and James Ciment have succeeded in describing what day to day living on the red planet with its thrills, limitations and ever-present dangers might actually be like. By giving us a taste of what's really out there, "Mars Girl, Earth Boy" drives home this point "good planets are hard to find." Required reading for anyone who thinks that if we trash planet Earth humanity can simply relocate.
