Attorney Dusty Rose takes a break from his law practice to work as a hunting guide for his Uncle Bob, leading pack-horse trips into the Pasayten Wilderness at the crest of the Cascade Mountains. Dusty looks forward to his backcoutry vacation, but what should be an ideal get-away turns into a dangerous, deadly ordeal.

Cassie Martin, also a lawyer, is on Dusty’s mind as he manages his chores hosting hunters and tending stock. His worst fears become reality, and it looks likely that this could be his last wilderness adventure, and that what he had hoped to have with Cassie will never be.

Author Susie Drougas brings the reader into a wintery wilderness in this captivating novel. We view the rugged Pasayten country from the saddle. A guide’s job not only entails expert riding skills, but also tending to clients’ safety and comfort. Life slows down on the trail. Preparing a meal includes collecting wood for a campfire, patiently waiting for water to boil before making camp coffee, meanwhile fashioning an oven in the coals. We learn from experts the special care trail horses and pack animals need.

Wonderful read

Another great book in the series by Susie. These books are so easy to read and they keep your attention. I don't know the first thing about horses, packing and all the other things that these characters do, but I sure can put myself im their shoes with Susie's description. Takes you right there and actually makes you want to do the things that they are doing!

Can't wait for number 4. My husband and I are both anxious to read the next installment.

I purchased this book for my 6 year old grandson, and he loved it.He read the book too me and afterwards, I tested him on the book to see if he understood what he had read,and he passed the test.This is a great book, and I like that it helps a child to be honest and tell the truth no matter what the consequence are.The author Auntie El did an awesome job on her first book,and we can't wait for the next one.This is a must buy and read book,every child should have this book in their collection.

This story has a great deal of potential

At times, the fast pace of this book is very entertaining.
The grammatical errors and run-on sentences make it challenging to read.

Also, it was hard to understand when one idea/scene ended and another one began. Perhaps, naming
chapters would have helped me orient myself to the story and understand the flow of events.

This story has a great deal of potential. With the help of a professional editor, it could more than likely
become a 4 or 5 star book.

About the Author
G.G. Hall and her husband live in Miami, Florida with four birds and four rescue rabbits. She is an adjunct professor with degrees in engineering and physics. This is her second novel- a sequel to “Hershey- A Tale of a Curious House Rabbit” released several years ago. The novel had great success worldwide as both an electronic book and a paperback and the audience of all ages demanded a sequel. Ms. Hall is also a dedicated rabbit rescuer with several rabbit rescue groups dedicated to rescuing rabbits and educating the public that rabbits are real pets, too. A percentage of royalties will be donated to rabbit rescue efforts.

When a book can make you laugh and cry, you know its a good story. I loved both books about Hershey. I am really hoping for a trilogy. Great book, I give it an enthusiastic thumbs up!

Alex Shepherd is out to change the world ... only the process of such a vast change will certainly begin with the crumbling of established civilization. Thus begins the dystopian story The Power Flux, which doesn't hold an EMT pulse as the instigator of change (as its title and so many competitors pose), but poses a new solar power source that could bring prosperity to not a select few, but everyone.
 
Free, unlimited power does not come without its price, though: particularly for those who have a vested interest in profiting from old models of keeping power resources firmly in the hands but of companies and political structures.
 
Alex's position at the heart of an anti-oil movement that finally holds the capability of offering something radically successful (and free to all) places him in the perfect role as both instigator of change and observer of what transpires around him, and this role is deftly translated into a fast-paced scenario filled with personal and political struggle.
 
In this near-future world, there are individuals with extraordinary sensory powers that aren't recognized by most of humanity. America has been divided into territories and is in a fragile state. State governments have collapsed, there have been three Oil Panics, the environment and society continue to deteriorate, terrorism is rampant, and thus the time is ripe for vast changes.
 
Politics, pulse guns, and dangerous encounters stalk Alex's band of companions and introduce readers to a world not entirely unlike our own. Alex determines to change the social and political structure, and loyal members of his group place their lives on the line for a greater cause. Driven by the desire to build a better world for his daughter (among other motivators), Alex is in the unique position of working against impossible odds to turn a dying world into a living, more effective future.
 
One might expect some of the physical and political struggles throughout The Power Flux, but it's important to note that matters of heart and spirit are not neglected in the process of describing the sweeping changes embracing all: "Plenty of horrible things happen to kids too," I reply and dip my hand into the glassy pond. This motion sends subtle ripples racing outward in an expanding and dissipating crescent on the surface of the water. "Not energetically. It's not the same." Jessie reaches his hand down to the water. He holds it flat above the calming surface of the water. "Physically, yes, bad things still happen, but our energetic bodies don't fully develop or open to the harsh realities until early adulthood."
  
Dystopian novels all too frequently take predictable paths, but the special pleasure of this story lies in its attention to building believable worlds, protagonists, goals, and bigger pictures. Add a fast-paced story line and an ending that wraps everything up while leaving the door ajar for further possibilities and you have a compelling, thought-provoking adventure that takes dark trends and adds hope, change, and love into the mix.

This sci-fi was not too far off reality which made it good. But a few things I had to face..

I was torn between 3 and four stars. I enjoy the premise, thoughtfulness of true oil and fossil fuel issues we are facing in today's world woven in and how easily this could happen. However, there was a couple things about the writing that bothered me enough over and over.

First the good part is there is no real sci-fi reach in this book. I can really see all of this solar technology and global fossil fuel issue being present in the not to far future. He tossed in some new tech to make it fun but very plausible. That made a great read. The characters fit well together and he really had a lot of characters in this book.

The people's hero (Alex), his team of loyal friends seem to blend well. How they all originally met is still a bit of wonder. The real villains are too many to name. From the wealthy fossil fuel controllers, to the people leaving in the east. Numerous security forces now rove the divided country, each with their own issues. Then the talks of sentient beings and how they fit in adds a lot of complexity to the story.

One thing the author did was become too overly descriptive. Short sentences. They did not flow. Your mind mentally paused as sentences ended. Constantly. Every chapter in the book had this issue. Not a single one was missed. (see what I did there). He also repeated the same descriptors of people and the issue over and over throughout the book instead of one great one somewhere early.

I did enjoy how he showed the breakdown of the country. It really made sense in how we could easily be split based on solar availability and how ripping the land of resources could be controlled and used against those that could not afford it. The author makes sure to include wind tech, solar tech and oil. having multiple oil panics makes sense as we know there is limited and untapped reserves still out there. But using them can cost the very stability of the global economy and health of the earth itself.

So I tried hard not to give any spoilers in all that and think it gives you an idea of what you are getting into. I read this in a few days on some flights. It is a lengthy story that has to cover a lot of ground in some areas and covers too much in others. But overall it is a great read and easily a great start to a series of books as the world comes to grips with alternate fuels, divided economies and people fighting to get a piece of control versus giving away unlimited energy.

This is a great read that kept me interested most of the time. It is a pretty fast paced book with very little down time reading too much fluff. The book is very interesting and is a fictional story about the future of our country. The author does a great job at building the characters and he gives them great depth which helps me get a mental picture of each of them. The book really gets me thinking about the worlds future in economic and political terms. Over all this was a good book that held my interest throughout.

A Mediocre Vision of a Mediocre Future

It's hard to write a review from a book that I neither love nor hate. I didn't find this book to be a page-turning epic exploration of the future of energy, nor did I find it to be the slog that some other have described.

The writing style is okay, and the story is okay. There simply is nothing to recommend this book, and after a lot of thought I finally know why.

The characters are all incredibly weak. We read that the protagonist lost his wife due to the evil of his enemies, but there's nothing gripping about it. You don't sympathize with this character. You don't sympathize with ANY characters. They are all so weakly described it's hard to care who is who. There's special powers among some of the characters, but you don't care. There's a future in crisis due to energy market manipulation, but you don't care. There's a huge expanding wasteland of dead zone and... you don't care.

Sorry, there's more to a book than a decent plot. The author has to make you CARE about the world and it's inhabitants. From this book I get the feeling there's an interesting world in there somewhere, the author just doesn't tell us anything interesting about it. Likewise, there's interesting stuff in the pasts of the characters, but nothing is described that makes us understand or care about them as people.

If you are into the whole grassroots political debate/energy crisis/political maneuvering/public anger at big business and politicians you might find this book compelling, but personally I could not find a reason to want to read it or recommend it. It's not a bad book, it just needs a bit more fire in it's soul to motivate you to keep turning the pages. As it is, I don't really care it I read it or not, because I don't feel any emotion at all (not love, not hate, nothing).

I wish the author well and hope his work continues to improve. I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Although I have not read the last four hundred 'locations' (out of 1900 'locations')those concerned with the Gorgias,I assume they will be at least as good as the ones on the Republic.The book is engaging (I read it in three to four hours in one setting),informative and accessible.

Wonderful science fiction novella that has many twists and turns!

HELETHIA is a fantastic and unique look into a science-fiction future ... a future without men.
The title of this novella by author Lori Lesko is also the name of our main character, a girl named Helethia who has been primed by her space station's senate to one day join their ranks. Everything on the space station of Diamond City is "perfect"--manicured lawns, smiling faces, a daily injection to "keep everyone's health up" (and other feelings at bay, perhaps?), and a history of how the men from earth left them all a century before when the planet's resources were nearly gone.
Helethia and her best friend Marcana have been told year after year that men are the enemy, and that the residents of Diamond City are the only humans left.
What happens, then, when Marcana's pregnant mother gives birth to a son?

I really enjoyed this novella by Lesko (her other book, COPYRIGHT, is awesome as well). There's a great pace filled with action and revelations, and as readers we see firsthand the love and friendship between brash Helethia and her best friend, the sweet and shy Marcana, and the strained relationship Helethia has with her mother, the cold and distant Senate member Claudia. Terrible things happen to Marcana and her mother, and Helethia must spend her teenage years and early adulthood figuring out WHY, and how she can fix everything. The romance factor is also there, but I don't want to reveal any spoilers before reading. Suffice it to say that nothing is what it seems in Diamond City, and Helethia must uncover it all: lies, murder, betrayal, secrets, and most of all ... men.

As much social commentary as it is sci-fi

I received a copy of this book directly from the author in exchange for my honest review.

I don't typically read sci-fi, but I have enjoyed Ms. Lesko's previous books, so I was more than willing to give this one a try. I am so very glad that I did. Yes, this takes place in the future, on a space station far from planet Earth, but the bulk of this story could have occurred in any place, at any time.

Since the book description itself reveals this much, I will say that Diamond City is a women only colonization. It's created to be a utopia of sorts, with climate controls, beautiful landscaping, and obviously no men. But erasing men from the equation doesn't mean that life there is one big, happy, feel good movie. No, women there are just as catty, vindictive and violent as their male counterparts - perhaps even more so.

To me, this almost read like more of a really interesting social commentary than it did sci-fi. Readers who are loathe to pick up something futuristic for fear of being out of their element shouldn't have any fear. There are twists and turns, secrets and lies, humorous moments, and yes, even a touch of a romantic element. It's a quick read, well written and fast paced.

This story wraps up rather nicely at the end, but the title indicates that there is more to come in this series. I'm eager to see what happens next to this cast of characters.

A powerful and wonderful story

This book was beautiful, attention grabbing, sleep depriving (I started it at the wee hours of the morning and finished it in one sitting) and awe-inspiring.
The story is unique and without giving away any spoilers shows human nature at the fullest, and how certain people will always grasp for power, while others will look out for their friends and others. I adored this book. It's one to keep and read again and again, maybe at an earlier hour though.
Helethia is living in Diamond City, a city that only holds females.
Helethia was always told that in the Year of their Rebirth, 2440 5,000 women and children immigrants selected landed on Diamond City—and were left to fend for themselves when the men’s adjoining ship never arrived.

This Book Had Me Beyond Elated!!!

Having read the first two installments of Charlie Smithers' Adventures,I was beyond elated to find there was more to read about old Charlie,and of course I was in for a treat.C.W Lovatt delivers dialogue that puts a permanent smile on my face,he has a very unique talent of making the most direst of circumstances in his stories, so light hearted I find myself giggling ,knowing that Charlie will come through the situation worse for the wear but able to forge on with utter determination.This book is sensational,C.W. Lovatt transported me to the Australia's with Mr. Smithers and I dare say I did not want to return from this latest adventure.Starting out with pirates, ending with outlaws and a touch of mysticism thrown in for good measure made for an extremely brilliant read and I highly recommend this book.

Charlie Shows Up Down under

I have read and enjoyed the first two books in the Charlie Smithers series and have been looking forward to this one that takes place in the wilds of Australia. These are great characters and the story includes history, adventure, and humor so it is exactly what I needed. I wonder where Charlie will end up next?

READ THIS BOOK! You'll thank me later!

I LOVED this book and devoured it in two sittings. It would have been one sitting but I had to sleep so the little one would have proper parental care! :) Heidi's writing immediately caught my attention and grabbed my interest. The book is quick paced and well written. I felt no 'lulls' and genuinely care for the characters. I cannot wait for the next book in the series so I can see how Sage/Hope's story continues. The concept is fresh and exciting; a fun read. I am going to start the book over today, I loved it that much. Kudos to Heidi Tankersley on an amazing start as a new Author!

About the Author
Hans Christian Andersen was a Danish fairy tale writer and poet who is most noted for his Fairy Tales, including the enduring children s stories The Snow Queen, The Little Mermaid, Thumbelina, and The Ugy Duckling. Through his youth Andersen worked as a weaver s apprentice and actor before turning to writing. Andersen s works have been translated into more than 150 languages and have inspired countless films, plays, and ballets. Although Andersen died in 1875, the anniversary of his birthday (June 2) continues to celebrated each year as International Children s Book Day.

Estupenda adaptación teatral para niños

Magnífica adaptación teatral destinada a ser representada por niños. Muy útil para colegios, campamentos, centros culturales.

El argumento, por supuesto, es el de la conocida obra de Christian Andersen. La adaptación teatral es muy visual, con multitud de gestos, movimiento, escenas visualmente impactantes, etc. Además de estar bien escrita, el lenguaje es apropiado para que lo utilicen los niños. Hay numerosos personajes, de modo que todos puedan tener un papel.

En general, tiene todos los elementos necesarios para que una representación teatral realizada por niños tenga un gran éxito y todos los participantes aprendan a la vez que disfrutan de la experiencia. Espero que la autora haga más adaptaciones de este tipo.

Realmente bien escrita! Muy buena obra de teatro para ser actuada por niños en colegios, academias, talleres, o dónde haya grupos interesados en actuar.
Es fácil de leer, interpretar y actuar; y a la vez muy entretenida y dinámica.
Gocé leyéndola e imaginándome cómo estarían los niños interpretando los papeles de cada personaje.
Mis felicitaciones a la autora de esta obra de teatro!
