About the Author
Scott Jarol grew up reading classic science fiction by Isaac Asimov, Arthur C. Clark, Robert A. Heinlein, Larry Niven, and Michael Crichton, which inspired him to study a combination of science and creative writing. Scott lives outside Seattle, Washington with his wife Nancy, one remaining teenager in a series of six great kids, a lazy Staffordshire Bull Terrier named Pumpkin Pie, and a feisty chicken who’s made it clear to the dog that she’s in charge.

A recommended light sci-fi read for middle-grade kids and their parents (!)
By CT
Disclosure: My kids and I were provided a complimentary copy of this book for our review.
This is a fun, eyebrow-raising, roller coaster ride of a story, with just the right amount of science fiction and archetypal mad scientist references. The title of the book in itself is the core of the story. The cover design speaks volumes about the genius experiment that could forever alter the future of the world in which the story was set. The story had a great arc, even if there was some foretelling of how things were eventually going to settle. The final twist at the end leaves the door open for future expansions of the storyline, but does not take away from the gratifying resolution.
Everything about this book speaks of excellence, from the cover design, to the font choice, to chapter subheadings, and even the book’s sub-title. The story narrative, the pace, the language used by the characters, and the depth of the scientific theories and jargon sprinkled in here and there, was appropriate for my kids ages 9 and 11. We have the paperback version, and they are still reading through it. It is fun to exchange notes and comments with them as they cover portions of the book. It definitely makes for great dinner conversation.
What I like about the book:
1. The introduction of the characters was quirky and dynamic. I know people hate references, but it did remind me of how Harry was introduced in the Potter series. I felt an immediate empathy for Zeke, the main character, and a host of other emotions regarding the rest of the cast.
2. The science fiction part was exciting, and makes for a fun discussion of theories with my kids. Questions like - What if this was made possible? What if this happened to us? How would you react? How will you handle the situation? How will you correct the oversight?
3. I like that some parts were left undealt with… primarily on the identity of the Chairman. It doesn’t take away from the whole story, but it does leave me looking forward to a “possible” sequel. I haven’t heard of one yet, but I am hopeful.
4. The school stories were very relatable – every class will have their own unrecognized genius, principal’s pet, token weirdo, and undercover janitor. In addition, the type of detention they had in the main character’s book was actually cool. I can relate, since I used to have farming as my home economics class. The discussions I’ve had with my kids on the characters and their experiences were also very interesting.
5. The classic question on whether the end justifies the means was present throughout the story. Is it or is it not? It will all boil down to personal values – so life will always be a “choose your own adventure” story.
There are a few oversights here and there. An example that is fresh is in the last chapter, where the Chairman was described as having a mustache that mostly “his his” mouth. That being said, I love the fact that this book isn’t completely perfect. It gives me hope that one day, some day, an ordinary person like me or one of my kids, can also come up with a legacy book such as this. Whether this becomes a best seller or not, this book is an awesome accomplishment. I can only wish Mr. Jarol continued success as he straddles between the IT industry and the wonderful world of science fiction. This was a great first book for him, and congratulations are in order.
Note: Since my kids are not yet done reading the book, I will subsequently add their comments as a “comment” to this review.

His 'cat' turns out to be a dog...
By Hanns Bell
Some of you will understand my headline.
This was a wonderful book which makes the world of particle physics fun to explore.
Plenty of twists and turns to keep you interested and enough science to make young readers want to know more. This is a fun and very entertaining book with a perfect ending, or is it just a beginning!
Enjoy!
