Growing up on a farm, the author recalls those special childhood moments when taking care of her pet guinea pigs, rabbits, calves, and hamsters was her daily responsibility. Doing so resulted in strong attachments for her pets. It has been a long time ambition to capture those precious memories for young children, and to demonstrate the important life lessons of compassion and caring. The author read to her children and now to her granddaughter. Reading inspiring stories to children enriches the loving bonding between the child and parent. "Moonpie"... Gift, friend and a life lesson!

I really enjoyed reading this book. After reading it myself, I can't wait to read it to my youngest grandson. It was full of warmth, feeling and nice illustrations that paralleled with what the author was expressing. It's a wonderful story which young children will enjoy and parents will love to share with them. Brings the outdoors and nature alive for them, as well. I hope the author will write more books in the future!

This is a precious and descriptive story for children with a surprise ending. This story took me back to simpler times, when I was a child and spent my free time outdoors, playing with and caring for our animals. It teaches that loving something or someone means wanting what is best for them, not just yourself.
