Oenone
Tangents vol. 1
Coming Home for Christmas

John Smith hates drama; he always has to have a plan, an escape route. He's a lousy father, horrible husband and a terrible co-worker.
Then the dreams happen, and he slowly starts to lose his mind.
Trapped in his own thoughts, he has a hard time distinguishing fantasy from reality.
And then there's the belt!
Is he dreaming? Is it real life? What has happened to John Smith? And what will happen to those around him that he has manipulated?

Chapter One Sample:
He put the phone into his pocket and was on his way to the store, when he felt someone touching his elbow. John turned around and saw a scruffy looking man, wearing a very old-looking jacket and some dirty jeans. His shoes looked as if they were at least a decade old and there was a specific scent around the man; it wasn't alcohol, nor dirt, it rather smelled like mold. Oh, Jesus, John thought and looked at the man's face.
"What is it?" John asked, irritated.
"I'm sorry, I was wondering if you could spare some change?" the man said in such a quiet voice that John barely heard him.
"No, I don't. I have no spare change, no spare needles, nor spare cans of beer. Sorry," he replied, turned around and went inside the store.
"I just need food, I don't drink," John heard the man outside the store say, but decided not to waste his time anymore talking to some junkie who had clearly fucked up his life. It wasn't John's problem.
Half an hour later, as he was walking out of the store, John checked his cart and realized he had forgotten to buy pasta and tomato sauce, which was too bad as he was planning to make lasagna the next day. He stopped before the exit, looked at the almost empty shop, checked his watch, sighed and thought he really didn't feel like going back amongst the aisles, when he spotted a cart with food left inside of it by the customers. The cart had stickers of a certain charity organization on it and the information written on a piece of paper hanging from its front stated that the food was being gathered for the poorest people living in the neighborhood. John looked over his shoulder, made sure nobody was around, walked towards the charity cart, looked inside of it and spotted both pasta and the needed tomato sauce. He hesitated for a second, but finally reached out and took the donated products he needed.
About two months later, he woke to find a belt lying on his bed for the very first time.

Review
"The Belt is an exciting book that I couldn't put down from start to finish. John Smith, our main character, is a total dick. (I know, right?) He is a womanizer, a charmer, a prick of a father, and a worthless husband. He does have some redeeming qualities, but they are short-lived as hepretty much shows his true colors throughout the story.

He loves women--or rather, fucks them. He cheats endlessly, and he has no realgood qualities, until the very end, and I won't give that away...

Needless to say, I liked the book, but I felt John was a real asshole. Theauthor did a great job making me hate him with everything I had. :)

So, if you like a book where the main character gets his just rewards, then this is the book for you. Just make sure you don't move the belt...theguy is really paranoid about them, after all:)" Danielle Zwissler, Goodreads

"Wow. I read this book a few months ago and it completely messed with myhead. You get to be inside the mind of main character, John Smith, andit's not a very pretty mind. He is someone you will completely hate. The book is very well written and has a great flow with very well writtencharacters. It's not my usual type books I read, but I wasn'tdisappointed.

It starts of with getting to know the multiplelives he's living. He is a shitty person and a complete asshole whoisn't satisfied living his married life with his family, so he's created three other ones with other women. He is a pathological liar and anextremely selfish man who is also the master of making women feel sorryfor him and fall on his feet.

Once his life starts turning upside down, he begins to lose his mind. But at this point you already hatehim so much that it doesn't make you feel the least bit sorry for whathe's going through. And then you start to wonder, what the deal withthat belt? Well if you want to find out to should read Agatha Rae's book because I will tell you, it's a complete mind fuck. In a good way." A great and crazy ride
By Ashley Tomlinson
Wow John Smith is a mega douche and that is the nicest way to put. He's a horrible character, not horribly written just someone you want to punch in the throat and watch wither on the ground in pain for a while. The author did an excellent job creating a character that is fun to hate.

John is a sorry excuse for a man. He is a s***ty husband, father, friend and a cheater to top it all off. He lives his life to fulfill his own desires not caring about the people that he pulls into it. He starts to have horrifying nightmares that make him not want to go to sleep. He finds his life is spiraling out of control and he is losing everything including his mind.

I really enjoyed this book to the point that I didn't want to stop reading it until I was finished. It made me question a lot while trying to figure out what the heck was going on. The dream he was having would terrify most anyone, especially someone like John. I won't go into detail about the dream because that would give too much away but just know that it's pretty crazy.

It was crazy that as a grown man he couldn't figure out how to live on his own though. I did wonder that a few times and completely agreed with what his friend Paul told him. I applauded Mickey and Cindy in the end and honestly didn't care about Johns sudden revelation at the end. He messed up too much to win me over and thought he got what was coming to him.

John Smith is a man who doesn't have much respect for others feelings then his own. He is a douche to say the least. He's a character one pretty fast learn to hate and wish him hell for all he does to the ones around him. The author Agatha Rae has done an excellent job writing and creating the character that one enjoys to hate. Well done Agatha for yet another great book!
